Mine's a Pint! One of the few remaining joys in life is finding a good pub or bar. Now obviously your definition of good may well differ from mine but I just enjoy those welcoming places with good beer and dogs in the bar. Sadly a good pub is hard to find but here are the odd few I have found to be well worth a visit. Le Doublon - Lorignac, Charente Maritime, France. You'll probably never find a nicer more welcoming bar. Pull up a bar stool and get Eithne to do you Garlic Prawns... Tell them Steve sent you. (everybody there is called Steve) Fox and Hounds - Great Brington, Near Northampton. Excellent beer, friendly staff, log fire, flagstones and dogs allowed. Food's good as well. Open all day. Perfect. Hobgoblin Reading - a proper old style pub with excellent beer and an oasis from the artificiality of the bloody Oracle. Only been once as I have an aversion to towns and shopping but was very pleasantly surprised. Cunning Man Reading - It's a chain pub (vintage inns I think) but very well done. Open all day, good well priced food, 3 guest beers, excellent staff and a pleasant location alongside the canal. Nothing not to like. The Cove Inn Lulworth Cove - OK ish as a pub, good beer, good pub food, slightly disinterested staff but fabulous location about 100 yards from Lulworth Cove. Stay overnight in a room with a balcony (Room 18 worked for us) and wake up to coffee on the balcony with a view of the cove. Free WiFi too. The Pheasant Inn Shefford Woodlands ( very near M4 Junction 14 ) - Interesting upmarket pub/restaurant/hotel with excellent bar staff, good beer and dog friendly. Very well heeled customers. Can be quite entertaining. Free wifi and a large car park (often with some interesting cars in it)
